On dividing a word at the end of a line:
Break the word at a syllable. For instance, if the sentence ends with 'organization', you may break it at any of the following:
Or-
Organ-
Organiz-
Organizat-

This is a rather sticky anguish which is aggravated because of the boring mechanical work it involves at the proofs stage, especially if the proof reader hasn’t done a good job! For details of some rules, one can check Chicago Manual of Style, sections 7.33 to 7.45. But CMS gives it in a slightly complicated manner. The best thumb rule is to break the words at syllable breaks.
